1) Weinberg, R. S., & Gould, D. (2003). Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology. Champaign, IL: Edwards Brothers.
2) I found this book by purchasing it at the Student Union. I chose this book because it what use for my EXSS181 class and knew it would have valuable information on sports psychology and that this would be extremely helpful in conducting research for my question.
3) I figured this book would inevitably contain information directly related to my question since it is a sports psychology book.
4) Authority- This is a very credible resource. It was written by two professors, one with the University of Miami and the other from UNCG.
Scope- This text covers a wide range of topics, from motivation of athletes, to training mentally, and how coaches should approach their athletes
Audience- This text is intended for mostly for students and anybody interested in pursuing a career in sports psychology
Timeliness- This text is very current and relevant with today’s most update information and strategies in regards to sports psychology
5) I used the table of contents to find chapters that were most related to coaching athletes and looked up key terms relevant to strategies used by coaches. I also skimmed these chapters to find the main ideas that were relevant to my question. After doing this my results included how coaches should support, encourage, and teach their athletes in practice and in games.
6) The book as a whole includes a wide variety of sports psychology topics such as strategies for coaches in regards to teaching and training their athletes. In regards to my questions it talks about how coaches should conduct themselves with their athletes and what they should and shouldn’t do with their athletes (ie punishing them and when to modify behavior) . The text helps me with my question greatly in regards to how coaches can impact their athletes, both mentally and physically.
7) I chose not to change my question which is how a coach effects athletes on game day because through previous research I feel I have narrowed down my question enough that I can find much more detailed information on how coaches effect their athletes.
