Journal Evaluation - Clinical diversity of sickle cell anemia

Casey Barth
Journal Article Evaluation
Steinberg, M. H. & Hebbel, R. P. (1983). Clinical diversity of sickle cell anemia: Genetic and cellular modulation of disease severity. American Journal of Hematology, 14(4), 405-416.
Strategy for finding the journal article
I found this journal article on E-journals is the UNC library. It was under the subject of health sciences. The E-journal was called the American Journal of Human Biology. I thought this journal would be helpful because Sickle cell anemia is considered a part of human biology.
Rationale for selection of the article
When I saw the title of this article I believed it would help me because I saw the words diversity and sickle cell anemia. My subject is on Africans Americans and why they are more susceptible to sickle cell anemia and I thought this article looked appropriate.
General evaluation of the journal article
This article was credible in that there were two authors and that the information comes from medical institutes. Towards the end of the article the authors also present the references they use throughout there writing. The article presents information in a way that is unbiased because it presents information coming from both sides. The information is not to narrow either, it is broad in talking not just about sickle cell anemia but other things connected to this disease. This information was not recently published so the information could have changed recently. For the most part the information is relevent to my topic and helps me answer my resarch question. The information presented in this journal is very helpful and more than enough information needed to help answer my question.
A breif summary of the information yielded by the article
The journal presents the diversity of sickle cell anemia through many different parts. It introduces the condition and talks a little about it. Next it talks about the diagnosis of sickle cell anemia then the diversity of the disease. Also it talks about the cellular and genetic factors that go into the disease. The diversity of the condition is key to helping me answer my research question. This and the introduction are most likely the only parts of the article I use.
A revised draft of your research question, if one is needed
After reviewing my research and seeing new information, I am choosing not to change my question.
