Strategy for finding the journal article
To find I the article, I went through libraries link on the UNC website. On the libraries site I used E-Research Tools. In the Quick Article Search I first typed in “Motivation,” this attempt was a failure because the results were too broad for my liking. So I then try the search terms “Motivation in Athletes” and “Motivation on Athletes,” on these two terms I still could not find the information I was craving. So my final search term was “ Motivating Athletes,” and under this search term I found the journal I am using for this evaluation. The database I use to perform these searches is on the EBSCOHOST Research Database called the Academic Search Premier. I found this website through the UNC Libraries website. I selected this journal because of the point of view it takes on motivation. It will be useful because the information in the journal relates to the subject of my question, motivation.
Rationale for selection of the journal article
I think the article will be very useful for my research. I selected it mainly for the reason the journal is aimed at coaches and athletic directors. Coaches and Athletic director really need to know how to motivate players to have a successful program, so this makes the journal even more inviting for my research.
General evaluation of the journal article
The journal article is in a coaches and athletic director’s journal which makes the article pretty legit. The intended audience includes coaches and athletic directors and anyone who is interested in learning about motivation in athletes. The article is pretty current, it was printed in 2000, but the same principles are still sufficed for the same applications today. The article is extremely relevant to my question so I was very happy with article.
Example strategies used to search within the journal article
In the article I first searched for the word motivation when I didn’t find that word I looked for other words that can me used are motivation, or forms of motivation. The forms of motivation used in the article were reinforcement and rewards. The rewards and reinforcement used were praises and awards like trophies.
A brief summary of the information yielded by the journal article
The article explained how different things motivated different players in different ways. A few strong motivational cues for athletes are reinforcements and rewards. Reinforcements such as a few words of recognition and a ceremonial appreciation for a job well done are some motivational cues. Sometimes this way of motivating some causes other players who don’t receive the recognition for trying hard to lose motivation. This problem can be fixed by the coaches giving award for Most Unselfish and Most Improved Player. These different forms of motivations can help or destroy a team’s cohesion, depending on the way the coach employs the usage of these forms of motivation. Motivation is the main objective and employment of the rewards and reinforcements.
A revised draft of your research question
I chose to stick with my question because this article brings me closer to an answer.
