Website Evaluation - FindLaw
Business, T. R. (1996, January 9). Find Law for Legal Professionals. Retrieved July 3, 2008, from FindLaw.com: http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/amendment05/03.html
Strategy for finding website
I found the above website very quick. I typed in “Double Jeopardy Clause” on Google and it gave me several results. I choose this particular website because the title emphasized the Fifth Amendment. This is very important in my research. The Fifth Amendment includes the Double Jeopardy Clause. I believed this information would be very useful.
Rationale for selection of the website
I believed the website would be useful before I viewed it because it indicated that it would go into detail about the history of the Double Clause in a small paragraph on the Google page. Understanding the history and the background information on how the Double Clause evolved is very vital in writing a research paper on its strengths and weaknesses.
General Evaluation for website
FindLaw is a Thomson Reuters business that is known for providing online legal information and internet marketing solutions for law firms. Its targeted audience is prospective lawyers and business people that are interested in the market. This website is very current and will not be outdated unless the Double Jeopardy Clause is changed or updated. Credibility and Relevance are appropriate criteria’s to evaluate this website. The website includes an “About Us” link that allows us to read background information on the company. It seems very credible and is trusted by many law firms. It has one of the largest teams of online experts. The site is very relevant to my research. It provides more than enough information for me to write my research paper. It provides in detail the complexity of the law and allows me to understand it better.
Example strategies used to search within the website
Initially, the website took me straight to information on the Double Jeopardy Clause. It was not vague but provided deep details on the complexity of the law. I was able to further my research by clicking on the next button which took me to pages that continued to go into detail about the Double Jeopardy Clause. I did not have to search for any terms because all my information was neatly laid out for me. Searching by the next button on the website was very successful. There was more than enough information for me to draw my research on. Some of the information I encountered was “Reprosecution following conviction”, “Reprosecution following acquittal”, and “Reprosecution following mistrial”.
A brief summary
The website as a whole contains a lot of information about the law. It allows you to search for different cases and law firms that may serve your interest. This website includes all the information I need about the Double Jeopardy Clause. It explains in detail about the complexities and different circumstances involving the Double Jeopardy Clause. It allows me to answer my research question because it provides information that explains the strengths and weaknesses of the Double Jeopardy Clause. This is what my research question focuses on.
Revised Draft
At this moment, I am not sure if I want to revise my research question again. As time goes on, I may feel a little different.

Website Evaluation - Rolls Royce
Strategy for finding the website
A. How did you find the website?
B. What database, book, bibliography, etc. did you find this source in?
C. What was your rationale for selecting that website? In other words, why did you think that website would be useful for your research?
Its the companies official website. It gives accurate and precise information to each vehicle model and its possible options.
Rationale for selection of the website
Why did you think that the website would be useful for your research, before you reviewed it?
A. Becuase it gives obvious explanations as to why Rolls Royce is the premier automotive company in the world.
General evaluation of the website
A. The authority, scope, intended audience, and currency or timeliness of the website.
Rolls Royce owns the copyright to this website
B. Select the evaluation criteria that are most appropriate for evaluating this particular website.
Credibility, Relevance
C. List each and write a short explanation of how well the website fulfills the criteria.
This website fullfills all of my evaluation criteria. It is credible because it comes directly form the company itself. The head administrative office of Rolls Royce created this website and continously updates it. Whenever something new comes up, it is posted and explained on the website. This site is totaly relevant due to the fact that it talks directly about the vehicle models and their options. It gives comparisons to other models as well.
Example strategies used to search within the website
A. How did you find information within the website?
I searched Rolls Royce in Google and it came up. Also, whenever I read something about Rolls Royce on another page (ie. Motortrend) there was almost always a link that would lead me to this page.
B. What terms did you use to search the website?
"Rolls Royce" "Rolls Royce Phantom" "Phantom"
C. How did you combine these terms?
I eventually went back to the Rolls Royce main page. Every site I went to had a link that would lead me back to the Rolls Royce homepage.
D. What other strategies did you use to find information within the website?
I viewed videos on www.youtube.com to decide whether or not the comparissons between a Rolls Royce and another American luxury vehicle are legitimate enough to do research on.
E. What were the results of your searches within the website?
Most of my searches said the same things. They all gave me images and some gave me videos of vehicle models and comparissons.
A brief summary of the information yielded by the website.
This website gave me accurate and legitimate information on the topics that I have decided to research. I thought this website would be the best place to find information about my topic(s) that was original and not someones opinion or misdirection. This website comes directly from the company itself so I felt as if it was the best choice. Once I veiwed this website, my opinion was supported due to the credibility of the information. It contains information relevant to my topic such as comparisons to other vehicle models and options available exclusively to Rolls Royce. This website helps me by not only showing me visual images to support my research, but also by giving me factual data that is undisputeable.
A revised research question?
I have decided not to revise my research question due to the website that I have found. This website only furthers my decision on my question. It gives me the information I need and answered the questions I had.

2nd Draft: Why do search engines make more money than social-networking sites, since both of them are free?
Course Description: The Basics of economics and the theories behind the American system of capitalsim.
Question: Why do search engines, such as google which is free to use, make more money than social-networking internet sites, like facebook, which are also free to use?
Question Description: I have never completely understood how free internet sites, such as search engines and social-networking sites, make so much money. After a bit of research, I have found that advertising actually plays a huge role in making mass amounts of money. Before doing the research, I thought that advertising was just a small part of the profit. Furthermore, I believe that there are many different aspects that play in to how much revenue these sites bring in.
2nd Draft: How does heathly dieting effect an athelete before competition and in what sports is dieting more important?
This gives information about how an athlete reacts when encountering certain obstacles and how an athlete prepares for competition. Some preparation for competition that this class goes over is the right mind state, how a person warms their body up and the process of getting into shape for competition. Though this class does not talk about dieting the right way in order to perform better, I think dieting the right way is important and I would like to take a nutrition class; which I believe our Univeristy has. Since some sports need to diet different then others, I believe that the one preparation that is the most important is absorbing the right nutrients for your sport in order to be at your peak for competition.
Research Question
How does heathly dieting effect an athelete before competition and in what sports is dieting more important?
Question Description
I have always wondered how much different an athlete competes while being on a healthy diet. INLS gave me the chance to research information from all over the internet on websites that do not provide false information. Through these websites, I have found that a healthy diet does in fact provide for a more successful athlete. The athletes that follow a more strict diet can enhance their performance due to the fact that a healthy body is a much needed for success in any sport. However, jockeys wrestlers, boxers, and many more athletes, are among those who need to support a healthy body. Having a healthy diet is a must for these athletes.
2nd Draft: How do professional sports programs become associated with their sponsors and what effect does it have on the athletes and their sports?
Examines the range of promotional techniques being used in the modern sports industry. Topics include sponsorships, advertising, merchandising, and the effects of commercialization.
Research Question
How do professional sports programs become associated with their sponsors and what effect does it have on the athletes and the sports' overall success?
Question Description
At any given time, in commercials, in magazine articles, and on billboards on the highway, I can see where products ranging from Coca-Cola to Newport have sponsored some sort of sports program and/or product. Whether it be an athlete, the whole team, or just a sporting event, these companies are doing so to promote their own products through the affiliation with sports. Through my research I would like to know how the process of sponsorship works and I would like find out the relationship between the sponsor and the affiliated sports program.
I changed the context of my question because I wanted to have a different focus. Being at the Olympic trials I was able to witness the vast amount of sponsors that contribute to the professional track program. I was also exposed to the relationship of an athlete with Nike, one of the main sponsors of the Olympics. I am interesting in learning the process in which the relationship is established with either the athlete or the program and how it benefits both aspects.
2nd Draft: Say your identity was stolen by a hacker. How far could they actually go to ruin your life?
Course
COMP 730; Operating Systems
Course Description
Theory, structuring, and design of operating systems. Sequential and cooperating processes. Single processor, multiprocessor, and distributed operating systems.
Research Question
Say your identity was stolen by a hacker. How far could they actually go to ruin your life?
Question Description
Today so many people order items online and enter their personal information onto unsecure sites. They do not even think twice when they punch in their credit card number. Today’s society is so concerned with convenience that they do not stop to think about the possible consequences. What they are unaware of however, is that hackers scan the web daily just looking for the opportunity to ruin your life. The Federal Trade Commission defines identity theft as “when someone uses your personally identifying information, like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes.” With this question I hope to find out exactly what a hacker can and cannot do if they are able to steal your identity. If I am lucky enough to find an extenuating amount of information, I plan to focus on the topics I find most intriguing.
From my first draft to my second I proofread and fixed any grammatical mistakes. I also reordered a few sentences in my question description to make it flow better. I added the definition of identity theft to my question description as well.

2nd Draft: How can interpersonal communication benefit and connect us to improving the social aspect of information science?
Course Description: This course focus on the communication that occurs in our interpersonal interactions. This course focuses on both verbal and nonverbal communication and will include elements of intercultural communication throughout.
Research Question: How can interpersonal communication benefit and connect us to improving the social aspect of information science?
Question Description: Interpersonal communication involves both verbal and nonverbal communication that we encounter each day, whether we recognize it or not. I chose to change my original question to focus on a specific aspect of information science. Additionally, since interpersonal communication is already developed involuntarily, knowing how to recognize those skills and being able to use them, would help in connecting information within and between certain groups. I would like also like to gain knowledge of how our everyday interactions can be effective in developing stronger skills and gain an understanding of what fields in Information Science relates these.
2nd Draft: How might study software supplement the a students academic experience when taking these courses?
Course: Economics 101, 400
Course Description:
Question: How might study software supplement the a students academic experience when taking these courses?
Question Description: I have been working my way through the Economics regimen and was wondering how software designed for student might augment their retention of academic materials as well as enable greater study accomplishments in the same period of time.
2nd Draft: In what ways are the least developed countries in Africa alike that prohibits economic growth and, what are some of the problems they face?
An introduction to the economic characteristics and problems of the less developed countries and to theories and polices applicable to the developing economy.
In what ways are the least developed countries in Africa alike that prohibits economic growth and, what are some of the problems they face.
An analysis of world GDP would show that the majority of countries with low levels of GDP per capital are in Africa. I want to know what kind of policies are in place within these nations that is prohibiting GDP growth, and what are some of the issues that a majority of these counties are facing that lead to low levels of GDP.
I decided that i needed to focus my question to a specific region to since there are many factors that lead to low economic growth. I also defined that is meant with low economic growth.
2nd Draft: What are the criticisms of the social structures in J.K. Rowling's created world of Harry Potter?
sociologists to understand societies, social institutions and the myriad expressions of group life. The course uses Harry Potter to explore the cultural contexts of human behavior and to explain individual and group interaction, social mobility and inequality, relations framed by class, gender and race, and patterns of socialization, deviance and social change. The class still covers all the subject matter of an introductory sociology class, but puts much of the material in the context of Harry Potter's world.
1st Research Question: How is the issue of race in Harry Potter similar and different than in the "real world"?
2nd Research Question: What are the criticisms of the social structures in J.K. Rowling's created world of Harry Potter? What are the benefits of teaching JKR's representation of social issues to children?
Question Description: I changed my question to focus on the praises and criticisms of the treatment of important social issues, such as racism and sexism, in Harry Potter. The first question would have relied more heavily in the reader's own interpretation of the Harry Potter series, and the second requires more research into what "the experts" have to say about Harry Potter's society. The question is now more fully developed, as it will look at both the possible benefits and disadvantages of teaching Harry Potter to children. The question is also broader, as it is open to include other social issues besides racism.
2nd Draft: Sniper rifles - How does both self and group imposed pressure effect the shooter's ability to hit his target?
Course
NAVS 223 – Sniper Central
Course Description
This course provides further information of sniper rifles used in the past and present and their specifics. We will examine the use of today's rifle as well as the pros and cons of the constant upgrades to these firearms. Not only will we dive into the rifle realm, we will also be outlining the various task forces that use these weapons and the mental training required of these elite soldiers.
Original Question
Is there a universally preferred sniper rifle? If so, what is it and what makes it so dominant over other rifles? If not, which force prefers which rifle and what are the reasons for the use of different rifles?
New Research Question
Military sharpshooters are expected to hit a target with a single shot in extremely adverse conditions. How accurate is the equipment these soldiers use to accomplish such a task? What consequences do limitations on the military budget have on the quality of equipment our soldiers use to defend their lives? How does both self and group imposed pressure effect the shooter's ability to hit his target? Does a shooter's mentality change with each hit or missed target? Finally, how do a soldiers successes and failures effect his life upon returning from war?
Question Description
I was initially concerned with which rifle was most popular and what made it so much better than others of its kind. I thought that perhaps different environments and situations would require slightly different features. Upon conducting further research, I have come to realize that the rifle is simply a tool used to complete a job. The rifle alone cannot be successful in accomplishing its task. The sharpshooter using the sniper rifle must be intimately familiar with his gun and the physical and mental procedures that he must follow to achieve a hit on his target. The physical training required is not profoundly shocking to me but the mental strength that one must develop to work in this position seems impossible to grasp. Because there was such a dramatic change to my original question, I have also added to my course description to broaden the ideas presented in the class, including the ideas brought about in my new question.
2nd Draft: In which ways does Rolls Royce impact the American luxury car market in terms of options available to vehicle models?
Econ 101: Introduction to economics
Course Description:
Introduction to fundamentals isses in economics including competition, scarcity, opportunity, cost, resource allocation, unemployment, inflation & the determination of prices.
First Question:
What sort of impact does Rolls Royce have on the American luxury car market?
Question Description:
Rolls Royce has been the pillar of success when it comes to luxury cars for almost a century. While the American auto market is steadily falling, Rolls Royce has kept their financial standings at a constant pace. My goal is to identify and describe the reasons why this has occurred and what sort of direct/indirect competition does this have on American luxury car manufactuers.
Second Question:
In which ways does Rolls Royce impact the American luxury car market in terms of options available to vehicle models?
Explanation:
I chose to change my question the way I did because I felt that my previous one was to broad of a topic. I am very interested in the differences between a Rolls Royce and an American luxury car. Also, I will be more able to point out direct and indirect competitive differences when I look at options available.
2nd Draft: How does/can a coach effect an athlete's performance on game day?
Course Description: The scientific study of people and their behaviors in sport and exercise contexts and the practical application of that knowledge.
1st Question: How does/can a coach effect an athlete’s performance on the field and at practice?
Question Description: I have had a number of different coaches while playing sports in school. All these coaches were different and had different coaching strategies. I noticed that I still had the same mentality and work ethic despite the coach or sport. On the other hand I noticed that my peers seemed to play and act differently due to the coach. I wasn’t sure if it was just me or if there really is a valid explanation for why my peers played and performed differently because of the coach. This is why I conjured up this question.
2nd Question: How does/can a coach effect an athlete's performance on game day?
Explanation: I decided to change the question to just focus on how an athlete can be effected while playing in a game and not in practice because I figured a game is more important thatn practice. I also decided that a coach has more of an impact on athlete during a game rather than in practice and that they may act differently towards their player in a game.
2nd Draft: The Double Jeopardy Clause has its strengths in courtroom procedures, does it have any weaknesses outside the judicial process?
Course Description: This course will take a deep analysis into laws such as the Double Jeopardy Clause that provide protection for citizens but illustrate several weaknesses.
Original Question: Does asking questions about criminal background on applications violate or contradict the Double Jeopardy law?
Research Question: Although the Double Jeopardy Clause has its strengths in courtroom procedures, does it have any weaknesses outside of the judicial process?
Question Description: My initial research question neglected the fact that the Double Jeopardy Clause has many strengths which protects our citizens. This aspect of the law needs to be explored. My initial question was also too specific, it focused on asking criminal background information on applications as a violation of the Double Jeopardy Clause. This aspect can still be explored along with other weaknesses the Clause may illustrate. My new question allows me to provide two different perspectives on the Double Jeopardy Clause and make an argument about what changes should be made.
2nd Draft: Does a team with a stronger sense of team unity have better success than a team that is not unified?
Exercise and Sports Science 181: Sport Psychology
CourseDescription
This course examines psychological theories and research related to sport and exercise behavior. The course is designed to introduce you to the field of sport and exercise psychology by providing a broad overview of the major topics in the area.
Old Research Question
What kind of things can be done to build unity among a team or group, and will the new sense of unity help improve the overall performance of the team?
New Research Question
Does a team with a stronger sense of team unity have better success than a team that is not unified? If so, then how can a coach build unity within his/her team?
Question Description
It has been stressed for years that team unity equals success, but with different types of people playing different sports I want to know what creates real team unity. It is important to know what coaches can do to best unify there team, but once a team is unified does it necessarily guarantee success. I want to look into the best way to try and unify a team, and see if it has been proven higher achievement for the team.
Explaination
I chose to reword my question to be easier to understand. It also makes the question more specific, but could be expanded on if needed. The new question will allow me to research in more areas and come up with a better answer.
2nd Draft: What is the best form of motivation a coach can use towards athletes in order for the athlete to reach their potential?
Course:
Sports Psychology EXSS 181
Description:
The course is designed to better understand the major psychological theories that relate to exercise and sports.
Original Question:
How does a coach go about motivating a wide array of personalities to their highest potential?
New Question:
What is the best form of motivation a coach can use towards athletes in order for the athlete to reach their potential.
Question Description:
There are many different people and therefore personalities that make up a team. Each person, because of their personality is motivated differently. Each coach has a different coaching style and therefore a different style of motivation. I would like to find out how a coach manages to motivate all or most of their players to succeed if they are all so different.
Reasoning For Changes:
I decided to re-word my question. The forst draft was too broad. It encomposed too many aspects of research. I have seen research that better fits the new version of the question so that the idea that I am trying to present will make more sense.
2nd Draft: What are the financial principles that professional athletes need to consider and what are the support structures that can help them?
Business and Financial entrepreneurship 101: Business and Financial stability
Course Description:
This course is for athletes to make business decisions like choosing an agent, manager, and any other financial advisors. Also this class can help guide athletes to make financial decisions like buying a house and how much money to spend and how to maintain, and protect their money. But the class itself doesn't make the decisions.
Research Question:
What are the financial principles that professional athletes need to consider and what are the support structures that can help them achieve financial success?
Question Description:
The professional athlete has to schedule every day to include dealing with their profession, with the media, and with their families. Very little time is given to the finances because athletes leave that job up to someone else who has all their financial information. This question asks what athletes need to do to ensure they understand the financial decisions being made for and by them.
My second draft research question has changed in some ways and the information that I have found to support this question is the reason I changed. I slightly changed my question because the question wasn’t fully understandable question.
don't forget to discuss why your second draft changed or didn't change
For those who posted their 2nd drafts early and who may have forgotten to include a paragraph as described above, you can go back and edit your posting to include it, or you can post a newer version of your second draft that includes such a paragraph.
That paragraph is worth a lot of points for the second draft (look at the gradesheet to see what points will be lost if such a paragraph is overlooked).
See you all on Monday.

Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, whats happening"(coco Chanel). This quote is stating how fashion is everywhere. What is the process of getting fashion ideas and ones creativity known the was this quote expresses? My goal is to learn about the fashion marketing process and strategies.
My second draft research question has changed entirly. My first question lead me to to the new information I now am interested in. I was able to use my thoughts from my first draft to narrow down and be more specific to what it is that I would like to research and become more familiar with.
2nd Draft: How does the mindset of an athlete affect the way he/she will play before an competiton during any time of the day?
Course
Sport Psychology 181: Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology
Course Description
The scientific study of people and their behaviors in sport and exercise contexts and the practical application of that knowledge. This course examines the role of people ranging from young children to older adults in their behaviors with sport and exercise.
Research Question
How does the mindset of an athlete affect the way he/she will play before an competiton during any time of the day?
Question Description
There are many athletes today that prepare for a game using special ways or superstitions to get in the right mindset they want to have beforing entering their competition. Though not all athletes take this approach towards the game/competition they face, and many spectators believe that not taking this approach affects the way they play. Having the right mindset before any type of competition is strongly important as your body will react to your mind before, during, and even after events. This questions seeks to investigates the way athletes prepare their mind before an competition will affect the outcome of how they perform.
I chose not to change my question because of the variety approaches I can take among this topic. From scientific studys in labs to terms such as “mental imagery” and “mental preparation” will support my question more and help explain it better.
