I felt the website was just interesting and the animations that are generated were cool to look at. Strategy for finding the Journal
I went to the Chadwyck-Healey's Literature Online database and searched for "harry potter" in the keywords search box and "popular culture" in the subjects box. (I used "popular culture" instead of other, more relevant terms such as "sexism" and "racism" because those terms were yielding less results. I reasoned that important social issues may be discussed in an article about pop culture.) This search yielded four entries, one titled "Harry Potter and the Functions of Popular Culture." This particular article was published by the Journal of Popular Culture, a peer reviewed journal.

Rationale for selection of the article
I selected the article because I thought that social issues may be considered an important part of popular culture in academia. I hoped that the article would contain some analysis of Harry Potter's impact on popular culture, especially in areas of social issues (or at least, how readers of Harry Potter may now think about social issues).

General Evaluation of the article
The article is from a scholarly and peer reviewed source. The subject at hand in the article is an analysis of popular culture, using one small aspect (Harry Potter) as a guide to understanding the mechanisms, the inner workings, of popular culture. The article was printed in February of 2007, so it is relatively current. Most of the Harry Potter books had already been released at the time the article was published.

Example strategies used to search within the article
I read the first six (of twenty-two) pages in the article, and then I skimmed the rest until I found the part where the author began to actually use Harry Potter in his discussion on popular culture. I read the portion of the article about Harry Potter, and found that the author used HP as a tool to back up his analysis of popular culture. One aspect that could relate to my research question was a paragraph about how Harry Potter causes social interaction between avid readers/fans.

Brief summary of information yielded
Harry Potter may be analyzed as a representative slice of popular culture in its treatment by consumers and in the effects it may have in establishing community among people with similar interests.

I started my search by searching for "African Development" under the E-Journals Tab within UNC’s library website. From here I selected the most recent edition of the "African Development Review," until it leads me to EBSCOhost's result page. I then clicked on "Full Text" option, and then selected my journal.

Rationale for Selecting this Journal Article

I choose this site because its title suggested growth opportunities and constraints, two major topics of my research question, and it was published fairly recently, in 2007.

Journal Article General Evaluation

I thought the authority behind the journal article was a reputable one; they are a "professional journal devoted to the study and analysis of development policy in Africa". The article cover many different examples of growth constraint and possibilities for growth, however he does not go into much detail within any one example. I believe it is intended for anyone interested in this topic. The language within the article is straight forward and does not use any technique jargon. I deemed this article to be recent enough to address my question, from April 2007, since development issues are looked at on a long term scale so any issues from 2007 are more than likely to be occurring now also.

Strategies Used to Search Within

Since this article is a fairly long one, twenty one pages, it was important to be able to search through this article quickly, and this was easy since the article is displayed in a .pdf which contains a search tool for its documents. Scrolling down, one could also search for topics through their large general headings. I was interested in the general heading to get a broad picture of their constraints, so I choose to scroll down and skim through the article.

Brief Summary

The article mentioned a number of issues that is constraining their ability to grow, and through possible solutions to these issues, areas of growth opportunities. Within the article Paul Collier "relates this to the region's distinctive physical and political geography. These features not only make Africa different from other regions, they make some parts of Africa radically different from others. Understanding these differences is critical because they imply equally substantial differences in opportunities and hence in the strategies likely to be effective for growth. No pan-African growth strategy offers a realistic prospect of success, nor can Africa simply copy the strategies of successful regions that have fundamentally different physical or political geography." - Abstract

Strategy for finding the journal article

Finding a journal that I felt would best fit my research question was not easy and by far the hardest to find out of my three evaluations. I started off by trying to find a journal using the database I shared in class, but I did not find any relevant information. From there I went to JSTOR.org, a link from the UNC library website this was very useful and I was finally able to come across a journal I felt I could work with, Design Innovation and Fashion Cycles.

Rationale for selection of the journal article

Not only did the title stand out to me when I stumbled across it, but I also read over the introduction paragraph and it seemed to fit my research question. The publisher of this article is an American economic association. So from that I could tell that I was not dealing with a small publishing company that did not know the knowledge that was being printed.

General evaluation of the journal article

This article is intended for those who look at fashion as something enjoyable and want to take that joy to another level. The audience reading this article is those who would like to learn more about the process of getting the fashion designs noticed, priced, and out on the market. The purpose of this article is to inform what methods are used to do so and what type of cycles fashion operates in. “A monopolist periodically creates a new design. Over time the price of the design falls as it spreads across the population” (Page 771). Creating a cycle that continues time and time again.

Throughout the article there were titles and subtitles that were very helpful in search of finding information for my research question. I used this strategy in search of information through the entire article and this led me to bits and pieces of information that I was able to put together to come up with answers to my question. All the searches I conducted became very useful as I was able to find a lot of information that was relevant for my research paper.

Over all the information that I have learned was very relevant and helpful towards answering my research question. This article shared the strategies and the cycle of the fashion world and what is expected form it.

At the UNC library site I used the EBSCO host database. My first intentions were to find available information on technology and communication so I searched the term information technology. I did not find an adequate article on this exact term. Since my research question involves two parts and how they relate, I searched the term interpersonal communication to find an article that could define what this exactly is and perhaps provide a good example.

Rationale for Selection

I felt the journal would be useful since I am in fact researching how interpersonal communication effects us in our everyday lives and also how we can try to improve communicating between one another.

General Evaluation

The intended audience is general; particularly for those in serious relationships. The article is current being submitted in October 2007 and published online in March of 2008. I felt the article was credible. It was written by counselors at the University of Akron in Ohio. The article is part of the international journal, Contemporary Family Therapy and there are also several references listed at the bottom.

Example Strategies

Within the journal article, paragraphs are headed by bold titles so it is easy to see what the following passage may be about. The whole article was relevant to my research question so I could read through an find the information I wanted to take from it.

Summary

The article is mainly about how couples or any type of relationship can be improved by recognizing the verbal and nonverbal signs. A main aspect of the journal is the couples activity and you are provided with steps to the exercise and concluding questions on how the communication exercise went and progressed. The article helped to show the importance of communication and how it can reflect on an individual or in a group.

4) The following article seems to be made for a general audience and seems current and up to date. The scope seems to be for specific topics in the sports psychology field and does a good job of describing these topics.

5) To search for the journal article I searched using terms such as “coaching” and “sports”. To find information within the article I skimmed the page to find key terms that would be of help to me. I did not combine any terms in my search. My results included information on how coaches should train their players at practices and how to deal with them psychologically during games.

Rationale for selection of the article

As stated before, the title of the article made me believe that it was about the relationships involved in a sports sponsorship. Also, I think it will provide rules or guidelines that need to be following with a sports sponsorship.

General evaluation of the article

Currency: The article was just published in June 2008 so it’s a guarantee that the information within the article is up-to-date and the latest trends in sports sponsorship.

Audience: It’s directed to sponsors and current or potential sponsored athletes. The article comprises information on how to have and keep a good relationship with your sponsor and the factors that could affect your sponsorship.

Relevance: I think it is extremely important in wanting to know about sports sponsorship. Relationships are a big part of the business and it could affect who sponsors you and how good of a sponsorship you will receive.

I used the HTML format of the article and not the PDF. Therefore, the article included an article outline in which I could click on a certain link, for example: Methodology, and it would take me to that section of the article. To look at figures and tables, I could click on a tab at the top of the page and would show me the tables and figures that are within the article.

The article is talking about how to choose the appropriate sponsorship and how to maintain a healthy relationship. It is mainly about the external factors that could affect that relationship. The article is helpful to my research in one aspect because it explains the relationship of a sponsorship. It didn’t fully answer my research question.

The article was published in October of last year so it is very current and is up to date with google, which grows everyday. The intended audience could be anyone, such as myself, who has an interest in google. It is published in a major banking journal so that would lead me to believe that it is very authentic and credible.

Many different articles came up and many seemed useful. Yet all of this journals seemed too specific and only talked about one thing that had to do with my topic. I felt it was much easier when I searched for a book last week on my topic. Since I had to choose a journal I felt that the best was "The Regulation and Expression of the Creatine Transporter". I found this useful because it talked about the suplemental use that are common in many athletes and how if affects the body. Since suplements are a big part of dieting in sports.

General Evaluation of this Article

This article is from a medical search engine. This is why there is a lot of science involved all through the journal. The author informs us about the effects creatine has on certain cells in the human body.

My article was reasonably short and I found it pretty interesting. At first it was a little hard to read but after a few times I became familiar with what the author was talking about.

This article was very well written and gave me a good idea of how creatine affects the body. The journal tells us that it affects cells in which usually ends up with a postitive athletic performance. Although creatine usually helps, sometime the affects may vary. Also if you do not diet the right way while taking it, creatine may back fire and hurt your body physically.

1. I found this article by using the articles and databases that were listed under my name for the in-class demo that we did.
2. I found the source by using the LA84 database. It is a database with sports realted items.

Rationale:
Before I read the article I thought it may be useful because of the couple of lines that was presented with the article when I searched for it.

General Evaluation:
The intended audience of this article is obviously football players or coaches, because that is what the journal is geered towards. This article has standing because of the multiple studies that were done to make up this article. Th article is a little dated because it was done in 2002. However, I feel that the information in the articke is timeless because it relates to things that have always and will always occur in sports.

Search Strategies Within the Article:
I simply looked for headings that pertained to my topic and skimmed through mist of the sections. This turned out to be not a very good way of searching, it was simply too ling. So, then i used a search within the pdf to search for "motivation" and that didn;t show anything. So, then i searched again for "coaching communication" and found relevant information.

Information Yielded:
Overall this article contains information of multiple studies done that shows the realtionship between sports and metepohaors to everyday life. It also contains information about how coaches can be authoritative and ooppressive which pertains to my question.

It was not that easy finding this article because most of the articles that came up in my search did not have anything to do with my research question, but when I read this article I thought it was useful because it told how Ernie Johnson got to where he is in his career now and that will help me answer my research question.

General evaluation of the article

This article was written by Ben Grossman. It tells a story about Ernie Johnson who is a sports broadcaster for TNT. I can relate to this article personally because I watch his show with Charles Barkley, and Kenny Smith on a regular basis. I think that the intended audience is for anyone because this article discusses that Ernie Johnson, has returned to the air after fighting lymphoma. The author discusses the career of Johnson in television sports broadcasting. The article also focuses on the decision of Johnson and his family to make his illness public. This is a very informative and persuasive article because it is a true story that any human being can relate to.

After I found this article in Ebsco Host I was able to search through the journal by simply reading the whole thing because it was not that long of an article and it was very interesting to me.

Rationale for selection of the article
I used this same data base for my book evaluation and I have become very comfortable with it and its features. It also specializes in the psychological aspect of journals and this is the information I am seeking specifically. The title of the journal article at glance is a brief summary of what I am researching. It is also a peer evaluated journal that I though would be helpful in evaluating the journal.
General evaluation of the article
I believe this journal is looking for the student audience. It also seems to be intended for those that have to deal with these long-term effects of war-trauma. Because war is something that seems to not be going away any time soon, it has become an issue for those who serve time in the war and return home. They are affected on s many different levels and it is becoming more prevalent because war is more prevalent and there are many soldiers affected by this trauma. This was published in 2007 which proves that most of the information is up to date and most of the information presented is relevant to today. These effects are not going away therefore there must be reasoning and ways discussed to help deal with this matter. Though the article is short, it provides the information that I find necessary for my research question. All aspects of the article are very interesting and though it may not all be useful, it is all interesting information that will lead me to develop a better understanding concerning my research.

After locating this article in PsycINFO I was able to search through the journal by using the “Find” tool in the PDF full text of the article. I typed in words that would lead me to sections of the journal that I was most interested in.
A brief summary of the information yielded by the article
War trauma is something that lasts a lifetime for most. This journal explains that this isn’t something that goes away overnight or after a few therapy sessions. This is something that one may have to deal with for the rest of their life. It explains that because these soldiers have to deal with these traumatic experiences at a very young age causing emotional damage for the rest of their lives. These issues aren’t short-lived and they take serious tolls on peoples lives. Not only are these soldiers affected, but families and friends and communities surrounding these soldiers when they return home are also dramatically affected. This information is all relevant in my research and I find it all very helpful to my research question.

I was able to find this book by using the PsycINFO database provided to me by my professor. I used the key words “war trauma” to attempt to find more information on the effects of war on those after serving their country. There were many results brought back to me, but I found this book to be specifically interesting.

This specific book provides an entire chapter on exactly what I wish to pursue learning more about. I also thought as a whole, the book would be able to provide me information on something I have always wanted to learn more about. The Persian Gulf War was an important part of history that I intend on learning more detail about. This book is located and available in the Information and Sciences Library in Manning. There were not only specifics about the Persian Gulf War located in the book, but there are many broad ideas presented about my topic that would be useful in my final presentation.

Though this book provides me with specifics on the Persian Gulf War, it also has an entire chapter dedicated to the research I am looking for. It provides various symptoms soldiers possess post war. It discusses the psychological damage and the disorders that may occur. I believed this book was very credible because there was a section in the book that I was skimming that mentioned some of the experts that had input in the book. These experts were from the Department of Defense, National Institute of Mental Health, and the Veterans Administration and these are just a few examples of the multiple page list of contributors. These are all legitimate sources that I feel will provide reliable information for me and my research. The book is able to examine the effects of post war trauma on soldiers as well as the way the community and families are affected from war. I believe the audience is those with an intellectual background. They may be students as well as those seeking information on how to cope with this trauma.

The emotional aftermath of this war as well as other wars is something too serious to ignore. This book provides detail on how one is to deal with these situations.

This information was not recently published so the information could have changed recently. For the most part the information is relevent to my topic and helps me answer my resarch question. Relevance-the article is slightly relevant to my topic. My topic obviously includes the History of Rolls Royce. This article is very short but covers a few things that I can address in my research.

Currency-the currency of this article was outdated. This was a major contributing factor when I decided not to use this source. Even though my book source was written only a few years later, it was more in depth than this one.

Scholarly vs. Popular- most of this journal has to deal with people who were able to purchase a Rolls Royce in the early days of the company. Though it does talk little about its early foreign endeavors, it is mostly directed to talk about Rolls Royce’s American market. This will help me if I decide to use this article later on.

2. I was able to find this journal at ebsco. The title of link was “Identity Theft” so I figured it would be most appropriate.

3. I thought it would be useful because of the title. The other titles that resulted from my search did not appear to be what I was looking for. I thought this one would give me more information about what I am researching.

4. This journal was not very helpful at all. It was more of a story instead of being informational. I didn’t really learn anything that I didn’t already know.

5. The article was not very long so I just read the whole thing to find my information. If fact, after reading it I found it so pointless that I read it again to make sure I wasn’t missing the point. After re-reading it I again came to the same conclusion that it was basically a waste of my time.

6. This article explains that most inmates do not have ID’s and they have to wait a certain period of time when they get out of prison to get an ID. Unfortunately most inmates are re-arrested and send back to prison not long after being released. When inmates are released they fall back into the trap of drugs and violence because they don’t have an ID which means they can’t get a job or a license.

The evaluation method I used to evaluate the article is by purpose method. The purpose of the article is to inform people or student of information about athletic imagery, as it is also educational, persuasive, and (sometimes) personal to the audience. The audience fitted the criteria as it explained to them what mental imagery is and how you can use it to improve your performance. The primary vs. secondary criteria was effective as there is a difference explained to the audience of mental imagery used by athletes and visualization used by people in general.

The article explained how different things motivated different players in different ways. A few strong motivational cues for athletes are reinforcements and rewards. Reinforcements such as a few words of recognition and a ceremonial appreciation for a job well done are some motivational cues. This problem can be fixed by the coaches giving award for Most Unselfish and Most Improved Player. These different forms of motivations can help or destroy a team’s cohesion, depending on the way the coach employs the usage of these forms of motivation. I found this article by searching in the UNC database, Academic Premier. In my search boxes I typed in “modern military aircraft,” and in the second box I typed in “war.” This came up with about five results, one of which was my article. I picked this article because it was the most modern article I could find that discussed how the modern aircraft worked in combat, especially in the combat and guerilla warfare of the twentieth century.

Evaluation

The intended audience for my article is those who are interested in the war in Afghanistan, combat, and how the modern aircraft was used in said war. The currency of this article is not a problem seeing as it was posted in 2001 on a subject, which did not change much in the future. The scope of this article is very specific, focusing on one conflict, and one aspect of that conflict. The authority of this article can be questioned, because there is no bio on either of the two authors, however, the fact that it can be found in a magazine, gives it some credibility. When the author’s names are googled, the results come up with several sites and magazines who host a plethora of different articles by the two, including “aremdforcesjournal.com,” which sounds very reputable.

Strategies Used

The article was very short so I was able to review the whole thing, in its entirety. This divulged some very useful information on modern aircraft and their uses in a war which is very “run and gun” and, at times, can be quite deceptive. Some of the pertinent information yielded by the article was that in many small conflicts, such as Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom, aircraft are used more for reconnaissance, support, and supply, rather than direct attacks. Also stated in the article, in many small conflicts, air superiority does not necessarily equal a victory in the conflict.

3. The title of this book is “Identity Theft” and that is exactly what I am looking for in my research. So obviously I thought that this book would be beneficial to my research.
4. I found this book very helpful because it explains why identity theft is such a huge problem. It also explains how hackers go about stealing your identity and certain things that you can do to greatly reduce your chances of falling victim them. It explains the laws regarding identity theft and what they do and don’t do to help protect us. It also explains what to do if your identity has been stolen and how to survive with minimal damage.
5. I found information by skimming the paragraphs. I read more about certain topics that I found more interesting. I read more about what to do to protect myself because I thought that would benefit me the most in the real world. The results of my searches were that I found most of my information in the beginning of the chapters and was able to get a good idea of the topic from the first few pages.
6. As a whole the book contains a lot of good information on identity theft. When I first selected the book I was somewhat skeptical but once I started reading I completely changed my mind. I was able to learn how hackers steal one’s identity and how to protect myself from doing so. I learned that I can happen to anyone, even if you are careful. I even learned the penalties if you are charged by a court of law. This book is very helpful for my research paper and I will definitely be referring back to it for information.

Today so many people order items online and enter their personal information onto unsecure sites. They do not even think twice when they punch in their credit card number. Today’s society is so concerned with convenience that they do not stop to think about the possible consequences. What they are unaware of however, is that hackers scan the web daily just looking for the opportunity to ruin your life. With this question I hope to find out exactly what a hacker can and cannot do if they are able to steal your identity. If I am lucky enough to find an extenuating amount of information, I plan to focus on the topics I find most intriguing.

I have revised my question to exclude Econ 400, though I do believe that a guide would be awesome, I think finding already cited sources will be challenging so I will just propose my own solution towards the end of my research. There were many selections for books when I started my search on Google. I chose this book because the words on the front cover had to do directly to my question, so I clicked on it. One of the very first steps I took to search for information is I read the first 3 pages which was the introduction to see exactly what I was getting into. What I have learned from this book is that the “fashion publishing market is bigger than ever.”(Page 45) this book is basically taking fashion and exploring the opportunities that could become of it, and publish marketing seems to be what is popular. The publishing year must be taken in to consideration though because it is no longer 2001 so publishing may or may not be the hot field as of right now.

The book is basically a description of how the web works. It goes into some details about how search engines can make money. The only problem is that the book was published (1998) before the time that google and facebook were booming. Had the book been published within the last two years, it most likely would have explained in better detail how those sites are making so much money. Other than that, the intended audience would be people trying to learn more about the web.

I read the description when I found the book and the description actually contained the elements of the book that I was looking for and told me what page it was on. At first, I used “internet” and “profit” as my keywords for the search. I then used “search engines” and “profit” for my final search. I got more hits with the first search but it was mainly talking about books that were about selling things over the internet and not the type of sites I was looking for.

The book is basically a description of how searching on the web works (search engines) and then goes into how to set up a search engine. It was relevant for me because it talked about how a free internet site (they used yahoo,) could “make a nice profit” (Page 110). However, it also said that yahoo actually used to be a search directory, not a search engine. It also said that yahoo has kind of changed into a hybrid between the two and “blurring the distinction between engine and directory”.

I also skimmed these chapters to find the main ideas that were relevant to my question. After doing this my results included how coaches should support, encourage, and teach their athletes in practice and in games.

In regards to my questions it talks about how coaches should conduct themselves with their athletes and what they should and shouldn’t do with their athletes (ie punishing them and when to modify behavior) . The text helps me with my question greatly in regards to how coaches can impact their athletes, both mentally and physically.

Before reviewing the book, from the title and table of contents alone, I felt this book would be useful for research because it contains information on why technology has become a significant part of our world and industries and also how it has developed into another world of information and transferring information and ideas. The book also includes tables and charts that relate stats.

The book gives general information on technology information and different ways information is being accessed now. The book is in report form since it is providing statistics and answers to questions at hand. The book gives report findings under the National Science Foundation. The intended audience is anyone wanting to know relevant information on the topic. The book was published in 1999 so it is somewhat current but not necessarily up to date since it is involving technology; technology is improving and altering everyday at multiplying levels

Example Strategy

For finding information I used the table of contents. The electronic source contained five chapters and within the reading, information was divided into sections headed by other topics. For example, in the second chapter, there is a section headed Meeting the Japanese Challenge: The Second Transition.

Summary

The book contains general information on why technology information has developed over the years globally and how improved ways of access help change the ways we view and communicate information. It also gives answers to question that users and potential users may want to know about technology assessment. Pertaining to my research, it included information on accessing new technology and how information science is significant in our world. I felt the book could have gave more insight on some topics but it was more of a general explanation of why we need technology information.

I chose not to amend my question. I was provided with information that was relevant to both aspects of my question.

My strategy for finding this book was very simple and made much easier by the fact that Mr. Bergquist showed me the book in class. After I found the book in the UNC library database, I went to NetLibrary to see if there was an E-version of my book. There was, in fact an online version of my book so I did not have to check the book out physically. I selected this book because it defines some of the basic strategies of aeronautical combat used during World War II, and how said strategies failed. Despite the fact that the book does not cover the same timeframe as my research question, it will provide a solid support for future research.
Evaluation
Even though the author of the book does not provide his background, a simple Google check showed that he graduated from Yale with an honors degree in history and then went into the United States Air Force for five years. This shows that he has a thorough knowledge of the time period of which he writes, and a practical knowledge of aeronautics and aeronautical strategy. The date which this work was published was 1983, which is definitely out of date for my research question; however, as I said before, it will provide solid background knowledge of past aeronautical strategies.
The audience that the author is addressing in this work is an audience of students, teachers, and military personnel who are interested with strategies used during the Second World War. The material is quite objective letting the facts and statistics do the convincing, however, the author is still slightly opinionated towards the way in which the war was approached and the way air power was used, or lack thereof. The coverage of this work I relation to my topic is cursory, yet it still provides important information on the general topic of air power strategy. This work was also a secondary source, quoting and siting many primary sources. The one review I read on this book was positive, stating that “This book will contribute substantially to anyone's understanding of the war.”
Search Strategies
In order to find useful information in my online book I used the Control –F search function. Some of the key words that I used were: “air power”, “air force”, “strategies”, “failure”, and “technology.” Few of these results, however, produced useful results. Another search strategy I used was reviewing the table of contents. The table of contents provided a reasonably specific break down of the book in its entirety. With this I was able to find some interesting information that I will use for my project.
Summary
Overall, this book yielded some good information that can be used as a backup for my research; however, it does not help for my specific topic. Since the book covers the Second World War, it has no information about fifth generation aircraft. The relevant information that the book contains has to do with the altering of the United States’ air strategies. It also helps to explain how the strategy of the United States failed during World War II. When I first viewed the book online I was somewhat skeptical that it would not hold any relevant information; however, after searching the book and looking over its table of contents, my opinion changed. The book wielded some very pertinent information for something written in 1980.
After further consideration of my research question I have decided to keep it the same.

This book is extremely current. Some of the experiments and thesis are dated, but the older experiments and thesis are important to show how far the current research has come. The authors are accredited doctors respectively from the University of Miami and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The intended audience is to those that are interested in learning about Sports and Exercise Science, or even those whom would like to better their performance on the playing field of their choice. The ideas presented in this book are coherent with those presented on the website I evaluated, and this makes both sources very creditable.

Searching for information in this book is fairly easy. A table of contents and an index are available for a quick search. When I was searching for Motivation it was extremely easy, I just flipped in the table of contents to the 3 Chapter- Motivation. Within the chapter I found all the information to support my question and allow me to gain more knowledge on the subject. The term I used to search was motivation and that was the heading of a chapter so everything came to me without much effort.

In the book I found the actual definition of motivation to be the direction and intensity of one’s effort (52). The book offered many forms of motivation and many ways to motivate individuals. The book gave me an in dept understanding that there is more to motivation than what I thought. I always thought motivation was considered the way to get certain individuals to do certain things. The book taught me that motivation can be aroused from traits and or situations. Though this is an older source than what I had hoped for, it still gave me sufficient information on the company’s competitive history as well.

Before I had even checked this book out, I knew that it might be very helpful if I was to find out, more in depth, about the company's history before I did further research. The timeliness of this book still pertains to the company today. Though it was written over twenty years ago, the information is still relevant to what I’m studying.

I originally used just “Rolls Royce” but when I looked at the sources available, I decided that it was too broad of a topic. So then I decided to narrow my search down and look up the history of the company.

I predominately looked at the index and chapter sections. I also skimmed a little bit throughout the book. My major strategy was still to look at the index.

What were the results of your searches within the book?
My searches yielded results in the early days of the company. I found out the Rolls Royce and Bentley used to work hand in hand with one another (Bentley was built by Rolls Royce). I was also able to find out who the major early competitors were with Rolls Royce.

Explanation:
My search started off by just looking for general information on Rolls Royce but as I found many sources to choose from, I decided that my search was way too broad. Once I decided to narrow it down to just the history of the company, my search became much easier. My original search would give me a large knowledge base on everyday things, but on the downside, I would miss out on what makes a Rolls Royce, a Rolls Royce. The amount of information that I would receive with my original search would be almost overwhelming. By doing this search change, I was able to not only find out more useful historical information on competition and statistics for the company, but I was able to learn about more in depth topics that are unknown to the general public. A few items on a Rolls Royce have significant historical meaning to them (the front grille, the grille emblem, the interior gauges) and other companies don’t have these timeless values.

A brief summary of the information yielded by the book.
The information I was able to find included such things as, Bentley and Rolls Royce used to work as an integrated company. Now days, they are competitors. The same emblem style is used today on a Rolls Royce as it was almost 100 years ago; most car companies have changed their emblem styles over time. In the competitive market, Rolls Royce had such competitors as Studebaker, Cadillac, and Mercedes. Cadillac and Mercedes are still in that competitive market with Rolls Royce. They are all directly competing against each other in terms of innovation and style but indirectly in the areas of exclusiveness and social status.

Rationale for choosing the book: I checked out the book after seeing that it dealt more heavily with social issues in Harry Potter than some of the other literary criticism books about Harry Potter. As one may see in the Table of Contents, this book has chapters about gender issues, friendship, ethics, and discrimination.

General evaluation of the book: The book is from a very credible source. It is a compilation of essays written on philosophical/social issues in the world of Harry Potter. The essays are all written by professors and graduate students at universities. The book is fairly recent, as well. It was published in 2004, and does not contain topics (such as technology) which would be outdated by now. Also, the book is volume 9 of a series called "Popular Culture and Philosophy."
I think this book will be very important in answering my research question. I have not yet found an academic source that more completely addresses varying social issues in the realm of Harry Potter.

I started my search by asking a UNC reference librarian where I can find books on economic development problems in sub-Saharan Africa, and was sent to the 5th floor in Davis. After finding some of the books referred by the librarian, and not finding a book I was contempt with, I searched the UNC library catalog for "Africa, Sub-Saharan -- Economic conditions" and found this book around the same area I was referred to.

Rationale for Selecting the Book

I thought this book was going to be useful because it was one of the first results from my search, which was constructed from my points of interest. Besides this point, I was not 100% sure this book was going to be useful because the previous books I found were not.

General Evaluation of the Book

Africa 2025 was develop within the frameworks of the United Nations Development Programme's African Futures Project, and was published from an academic publishing company, so I deemed the books authority fairly high. The book covers many different topics and does not go into great detail about any one topic, but it was sufficient enough for my research project. I believe it is intended for academics or anyone interested in possible future African development scenarios. I also rated the books currency fairly high since it was published in 2003 and many, if not all, of the topics coved still pertains to sub-Saharan Africa. Information accuracy was another strong point of this book, backing up many of its statement with facts, graphs, and diagrams. Further research on the topics verified the books information, and upon further researching the book I found it had outside observer to ensure it final form, all which made me feel pretty confident about its content.

Strategies used for Searching within the Book

Most the information found in the book was found using its table on contents, since this book did not feature an index. I found the lack of an index to be weaknesses of this book because it made it harder to find a specific topic since the table of contents is vague. My concerns lead me to search under the "Demographics" and "The Economy" chapters. I also browsed through the book a few times and found interesting information that way as well.

"Africa 2025 does not claim to know what Africa will be like tomorrow. The objective is to explore possible futures for sub-Saharan Africa. More than a thousand Africans, in 46 countries, women and men, anglophone and francophone, and from very different backgrounds, were involved in this exploration. I found the book in Davis library and just by scanning the front and back covers of the book, I decided that it would be very beneficial to my research.

Because it is called a handbook, I instantly thought that it would be a complete guide through the sponsorship process. It also includes a complete overview of sports marketing and sports management theory and insight into the roles of key stakeholders such as athletes, commercial sponsors, and the media.

Credibility: The authors are also credible sources: for example, Alain Ferrand is Head of the Department of Sports Management at the University of Lyon in France.

Currency: The information in the book is credible because it is up-to-date, it was last published in 2007, and it includes all the current trends in sports marketing and sponsorship.

The content of this book is designed especially for those who have a strong interest in learning the business of sports marketing and sponsorship. As a whole, the website provides information on a spectrum of topics. It is basically a factual reference. Within this site, you can search a topic in several different languages. You are provided with an article, links, and outside readings on the topic at hand. The website helps to answer my question by providing a range of information, definitions and relating information on social aspects of information science.

I chose not to revise my research question since I am able to find enough information on my topic through the sources I search through. I can still find relative information on communication and technology.

I found this website by searching on google. It was one of the first several that popped up. It was actually the first one that I clicked on. I used google because I have used it hundreds of times on projects and it always comes in very handy. I think I could find about anything I could ever want on google.

This was the first website I clicked on, however , it wasn’t the first on the list. I wasn’t really in a hurry either. The ones above it were mostly credit card companies and such. The titly was “About Identity Theft” and since I wanted to learn more about it this caught my attention.

General Evaluation of the website
I found that this websit was pretty up to date. The last article was June 10, 2008 so it wasn’t exactly very recent but just because it isn’t updated daily doesn’t mean that it is not good information. This website is intended to reach anyone wishing to learn more about protection their identity.

I clicked around on different links and explored for a while. I found many links on how to protect your identity. Many different strategies to prevent your identity from being stolen. There was even quizes to find out whether or not you are doing what you can to protect yourself.

Rational for selection of website:
I chose this website because it was not Sparknotes, which albeit useful, is overtly commerical. I would expect it to omit important information. This website came up second.

General evaluation and summary of the website:
It is a dot com and is titled Economics Internet Library. That seems to carry an official capacity, however, given the ".com" I looked for reasons to be perturbed. Initial looks at it present an website that seems to possess a wealth of knowledge. Their interactive economics notes, "now free", link to a set of pages of the websites' own creation, providing some introductory economics notes. These notes are outlines, perhaps taken from texts along with scans and images. Although they provide accurate information, without much attribution the material could seem questionable. Much digging is required to find the author, who is actually a seasoned and retired business school professor likey augmenting his retirement purse by selling materials and information. The design of the site suggests that he took the economical approach and avoided the design element, making the site less appealing than it could be, perhaps also reaching a smaller effective audience, be they seeking information or the related textbooks. The site is also dated 5/2007, bad in the textbook business because he given that he shows up so high in google, he should have every textbook students will be looking for easily accessible, searchable, and prominently or at least cleanly displayed. In any case, the site provides adaquate surface information with regard to introductory economics and a barebones study aid which is one approach to augmenting a students opportunities to grasp and retain academic material.

I simply went to Google and typed in good motivation for coaches to use. I typed it withouit quotes. The first item that appeared was a pdf about motivation from the above website. I then used the pdf to find the original website.

Ratonale:
I thought that this website was a good tool because it has many articles and links to other resources about improving coaching skills. It also has small tips on the website that could help for coaching.

Evaluation:
The website is a reliable source. It is from Canada and about Canadian Football which is odd, but there is many contacts that are offered through the website. Obviously the wbsigte is not biased, it is a tool for all coaches to use (specifically Canadian Football coaches, but it served my purpose as well). The website is apperantly monitered daily as there is the current date at the top. Eventhough the website may not have been actually updated, it still does not necessarily lose credibility because it is not football season.

Searching Within the Site:
Searching within the site for motivational tips was simple. There were several links presented under the coaches tab on the main page that were for oither websites that had info about motivation. Also, wothin some of the links from the websites, there are search engines b=uilt in to it to search their database of pdfs.

Information Yielded:
I found some very useful motivational pdfs throught he links of the website. These were not just for football, these tips could obviously be used for any sport. The website contains many resoursces for coaches to better themselves. This website is helpful for me to answer my question because it does have several articles that I can use.

Revised Question:
I now feel much better about my question that I have psed, and feel that no changes need to be made because there is information out there about this tpopic. Therefore, this must be an interesing topic for someone.

I thought this website was valid a good website to base my project on. The African Development Bank Group is a multilateral development bank, with members all over the world. This website covers many topic within there group, but does not provide much detail for many of the topic. There intended audience is anyone wishing to learn about the development issues within Africa , i believe they also target a older, more educated audience, and only English and French speaking audience. The website seems to be updated daily with articles on current issues within Africa pertaining development and African issues. When i evaluated the website with the advocacy checklist from Widener University, i thought it was based on a Authoritative group, that has been around since 1964, clearly described there goals, and provided contact information to all of their regional offices and headquarter. I thought the information they offered was also accurate since they offer contact information about the writer of every article a the end of the article and the website was mistake free. The articles within the website were slightly biased, shedding a positive light on all of their projects, however there are no advertisements within their website, so i thought it was objective enough for my needs since i was still able to extract the basic information from their articles. There articles are up-to-date, and everything seems current. Their website is completed and articles can be found within link with general headings, and I found everything to be presented in a clear manner, leading me to think this is a valid website.

I found all my information by searching within the general links, but this website also feature a search box where one can search within their website. My goal lead me to first look under the topics link towards the top, and then i immediately saw a link for development issues on the left hand side. To explore their search tool, i also search for "corruption" in their toolbox and the first site that came up was the site i visited off the links, suggesting their search box is a good tool exploring articles withing their site. The search box is good because it offers fast results, but if you are not exactly sure what you want, it may be better to explore the link and the information within the links.

Summary of Website Information

This website contained a brief information about the company, their goals, plans, and all their financial information, so if you wanted to get involved with the company or buy shares of the company. I was interested with the anti-corruption section of their site, and it offered current articles on the issue, strategies on preventing it, ways to contact their department, and even general complaint forms. It feature development issues, which is one of the main topics i wanted to answer from my question, and information about different countries struggling with development within Africa. It helped me by informing me of some of the general development problems affecting Africa.

My website was very easy to find. I simply typed in “united states modern military air power” into Google and this appeared as the seventh or eighth link. Lockheed Martin, the sponsor of the website, is the major military contractor to the United States. They supply everything from airplanes and weapon systems, to civilian transport aircraft. This site will be helpful to my research because it gives all the specifics on the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Joint Striker and the site is definitely reliable considering that if was made by Lockheed Martin.

Evaluation

It is very clear that this website is reputable because it was created by Lockheed Martin the creator of both the F-22 Raptor and the F-35 Joint Striker, two attack aircraft that I am researching. Also, in terms of legitimacy, there is both a phone number and address of the company’s headquarters. As far as objectivity goes, the site has an obvious bias, one which is pro war. Despite the fact that Lockheed Martin does not say that they are pro-war, the majority of their business comes from military contracting and military contract development. There is no advertising on the website except for advertisements from Lockheed Martin itself. The dates on the website are somewhat general; however I am sure that they updated the site sometime in 2008. It is also clear that the site has been completed and is up to date. However, as the technology evolves, so will the website.

Strategies

To navigate the website I simply used the built in search tool on the home page. From there, I typed in “Fifth Generation aircraft.” I have not, as of yet, searched for further information from the Lockheed Martin site that could be relevant to my research; however I am sure that there is more information that could be significant.

I have decided to revise my research question due to the website that I have found. The home page of the website I found wasn’t a result brought back to me by Google. It was actually titled M40A1- Sniper rifles, and because of a previous class I had taken I was familiar with the rifle and decided to see what else the site had to offer. It was also a website that contained .org which I have learned is usually a legitimate website with justifiable information.

This site provides the audience with general background of the director of the website as well as credentials that allow us to determine whether or not we feel he is knowledgeable enough in this aspect to provide us with this information. The first website I choose was not, in fact, the main page of nhlbi.nih.gov but a different section in its database. For example it had the reasons, symptoms, people who are at risk, etc. I noticed that at the top of this page, this site was produced by the National Lung Heart and Blood Institute, so I knew that this site could be trusted and very helpful. c. I did not combine terms. I mostly searched them individually.

General Evaluation of Website

Before I evaluated the site I knew this site was from an internet service provider when I saw .net it was a clear give away. After actually then looking into the website and clicking on links that lead me to strategies of becoming a fashion designer.[1] “There are so many different ways to embark upon a fashion career as there are styles of designs.”[2] Under the strategy link a famous fashion designer Ralph Lauren was mentioned and used as an example of how this corporation became worldly known and popular, by using some of the strategies mentioned on the website. This showed some credibility. The primary audience is those who are looking into a fashion career and just not quite sure how to start one. This website gives the viewers an inside look and examples to get there career moving along.

With in the site I clicked on link after link reading and evaluating information I would come across. This website has answered questions I didn’t even think to ask. The homepage was a great intro, but the links was where all the details laid. The links would show you strategies to how to become a fashion designer but most importantly there was a link that stated “alternative routes”[3] just in case plan A or B didn’t work there would be back up. Though I thought I found everything I was looking for right on the home page of this website. The links became the most important information of the website.

After evaluating this website the two links that really gave me the most information towards my research question was “Choosing strategies”[4] and “how to become a fashion designer”. [5] These two links really gave me an inside look into what I was curious and really answered new questions. As a whole Fashion Net did its purpose and really gave me relevant information for my research project.

I found this website through searching sports psychology imagery in a Google search. There were 446,000 results from the Google search and the website I used was the very first one on the list because after reviewing the website, it had the information I want to use on my research question.

I decided to select this website before reviewing it by from the description it gave below. The description announced that the website is based on sports psychology and how it uses fundamental tools to help control your mind and body to give optimum sporting performance. This description related the most to my question than the other websites listed on the result search by Google.

I found the above website very quick. I typed in “Double Jeopardy Clause” on Google and it gave me several results. I choose this particular website because the title emphasized the Fifth Amendment. This is very important in my research. The Fifth Amendment includes the Double Jeopardy Clause. I believed this information would be very useful.

Question Description
At any given time, in commercials, in magazine articles, and on billboards on the highway, I can see where products ranging from Coca-Cola to Newport have sponsored some sort of sports program and/or product. Whether it be an athlete, the whole team, or just a sporting event, these companies are doing so to promote their own products through the affiliation with sports. Through my research I would like to know how the process of sponsorship works and I would like find out the relationship between the sponsor and the affiliated sports program.

I changed the context of my question because I wanted to have a different focus. Being at the Olympic trials I was able to witness the vast amount of sponsors that contribute to the professional track program. Question Description
Today so many people order items online and enter their personal information onto unsecure sites. They do not even think twice when they punch in their credit card number. Today’s society is so concerned with convenience that they do not stop to think about the possible consequences. What they are unaware of however, is that hackers scan the web daily just looking for the opportunity to ruin your life. The Federal Trade Commission defines identity theft as “when someone uses your personally identifying information, like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes.” With this question I hope to find out exactly what a hacker can and cannot do if they are able to steal your identity. If I am lucky enough to find an extenuating amount of information, I plan to focus on the topics I find most intriguing.

I was initially concerned with which rifle was most popular and what made it so much better than others of its kind. I thought that perhaps different environments and situations would require slightly different features. Upon conducting further research, I have come to realize that the rifle is simply a tool used to complete a job. The rifle alone cannot be successful in accomplishing its task. The sharpshooter using the sniper rifle must be intimately familiar with his gun and the physical and mental procedures that he must follow to achieve a hit on his target. The physical training required is not profoundly shocking to me but the mental strength that one must develop to work in this position seems impossible to grasp. Because there was such a dramatic change to my original question, I have also added to my course description to broaden the ideas presented in the class, including the ideas brought about in my new question.

1st Question: How does/can a coach effect an athlete’s performance on the field and at practice?

Question Description: I have had a number of different coaches while playing sports in school. All these coaches were different and had different coaching strategies. I noticed that I still had the same mentality and work ethic despite the coach or sport. On the other hand I noticed that my peers seemed to play and act differently due to the coach. I wasn’t sure if it was just me or if there really is a valid explanation for why my peers played and performed differently because of the coach. This is why I conjured up this question.

Explanation: I decided to change the question to just focus on how an athlete can be effected while playing in a game and not in practice because I figured a game is more important thatn practice. I also decided that a coach has more of an impact on athlete during a game rather than in practice and that they may act differently towards their player in a game.

Question Description: My initial research question neglected the fact that the Double Jeopardy Clause has many strengths which protects our citizens. This aspect of the law needs to be explored. My initial question was also too specific, it focused on asking criminal background information on applications as a violation of the Double Jeopardy Clause. This aspect can still be explored along with other weaknesses the Clause may illustrate. My new question allows me to provide two different perspectives on the Double Jeopardy Clause and make an argument about what changes should be made.

Question Description
It has been stressed for years that team unity equals success, but with different types of people playing different sports I want to know what creates real team unity. It is important to know what coaches can do to best unify there team, but once a team is unified does it necessarily guarantee success. I want to look into the best way to try and unify a team, and see if it has been proven higher achievement for the team.

Explaination
I chose to reword my question to be easier to understand. It also makes the question more specific, but could be expanded on if needed. The new question will allow me to research in more areas and come up with a better answer.

Question Description:
There are many different people and therefore personalities that make up a team. Each person, because of their personality is motivated differently. Each coach has a different coaching style and therefore a different style of motivation. I would like to find out how a coach manages to motivate all or most of their players to succeed if they are all so different.

Reasoning For Changes:
I decided to re-word my question. The forst draft was too broad. It encomposed too many aspects of research. I have seen research that better fits the new version of the question so that the idea that I am trying to present will make more sense.

This course is for athletes to make business decisions like choosing an agent, manager, and any other financial advisors. Also this class can help guide athletes to make financial decisions like buying a house and how much money to spend and how to maintain, and protect their money. But the class itself doesn't make the decisions.

Research Question:
What are the financial principles that professional athletes need to consider and what are the support structures that can help them achieve financial success?

Question Description:
The professional athlete has to schedule every day to include dealing with their profession, with the media, and with their families. Very little time is given to the finances because athletes leave that job up to someone else who has all their financial information. This question asks what athletes need to do to ensure they understand the financial decisions being made for and by them.

My second draft research question has changed in some ways and the information that I have found to support this question is the reason I changed. I slightly changed my question because the question wasn’t fully understandable question.

Remember, your second draft research question should reflect some evidence that you have found some information about your topic and that information (or perhaps your reflection on it) has caused you to think about your question. If you have changed the question in any way, be sure to include a short paragraph talking about the changes and the reasons for the. If you have not changed your question in any way, be sure to include a short paragraph explaining why you still feel the original question is still adequate for your needs.

For those who posted their 2nd drafts early and who may have forgotten to include a paragraph as described above, you can go back and edit your posting to include it, or you can post a newer version of your second draft that includes such a paragraph.

That paragraph is worth a lot of points for the second draft (look at the gradesheet to see what points will be lost if such a paragraph is overlooked).
